DEADLY PLEASURES MYSTERY MAGAZINE – NEW ISSUE AUGUST 2024!

DEADLY PLEASURES MYSTERY MAGAZINE – NEW ISSUE AUGUST 2024!

George Easter has just sent out the latest issue of his Deadly Pleasures Mystery Magazine (No. 104) and it is another great issue packed full of reviews and interesting information.

The magazine is now up to 104 issues, which is a remarkable achievement by George, especially in this day and age when so many mystery magazines have fallen by the wayside. The magazine is now only available electronically, but subscribers can download and print for themselves. The price is very very reasonable for annual subscription (see below).

The current issue clocks in at 90 pages. The main article focuses on popular British author M. W. (Mike) Craven, and has reviews of his award winning books, and his forthcoming title Nobody’s Hero. There is interesting background information on Craven and his books, and a great interview with him by Craig Stevenson. A terrific article.

There is also a provocative critique of the CWA Dagger Awards nominees and winners by Larry Gandle, which gives a good alternative view, and an interesting article on Annamaria Alfieri’s African mysteries set in early twentieth-century British East Africa (now Kenya). I had never heard of Annamaria or her mysteries, which sound quite interesting. There is also a revealing interview with Eli Cranor, author of the much acclaimed Ozark Dogs.

Of course, there is the usual sweeping collection of book reviews that cover all aspects of crime fiction from cozy mysteries to detective novels to action thrillers. There are now substantial sections on historical and cozy mysteries, as well as a number of reviews on British crime fiction. There is the usual good dose of American crime stories and several action thrillers. There is also a section on Down Under Crime Fiction, including new books by Benjamin Stevenson, Gabriel Bergmoser and Sherryl Clark.

Mike Ripley also provides his usual fascinating articles on historical British mysteries and thrillers, this time those written during World War II.

As always, one of the highlights of Deadly Pleasures Mystery Magazine is the ongoing list of the best crime and thriller titles of 2024, which is a great source for those looking for something to read. And there is also the Sneak Previews of forthcoming books, including those by Michael Connelly, Peter May and Robert Crais, to name a few.

Once again, Deadly Pleasures is a terrific read that will inspire your criminal reading and alert you to those books, which may fall a little short of expectations. It really is a must read for anyone interested in crime novels, mysteries and thrillers.
