‘THE BEST OF THE BEST’ CRIME READS OF 2023 AND THE MOST ANTICIPATED BOOKS OF 2024 – NEW DEADLY PLEASURES MAGAZINE

‘THE BEST OF THE BEST’ CRIME READS OF 2023 AND THE MOST ANTICIPATED BOOKS OF 2024 – NEW DEADLY PLEASURES MAGAZINE

George Easter has just sent out the latest edition of his Deadly Pleasures Mystery Magazine (No. 102) and it is a bumper issue featuring the best reads of 2023 and the most anticipated crime novels of 2024, as well as the usual reviews and interesting articles.

The magazine’s main article is the most comprehensive listing of the best books from last year that you could find! George has collated 113 “Best Of” lists from newspapers, magazines, independent reviewers, websites and bloggers from around the world and included them in the magazine. He has also analysed the lists to find the most mentioned titles. Not surprisingly, books by S. A. Cosby, Dennis Lehane, Mick Herron, Jessica Knoll and Richard Osman led the way as the popular crime novels, but there are some surprises in the list. Certainly well worth checking out.

Complementing the Best of 2023, is an article on the Most Anticipated Crime Novels and Thrillers of 2024. This is a terrific listing of nearly 200 crime and thriller books due out this year, along with short blurbs for each of them. I was vaguely aware of most of them, but George also identified some books which I had not realised were scheduled for release. I was particularly excited to see the new titles by Deon Meyer (finally), Alex Finlay, Peter May and a posthumous book from Mo Hayder. It looks like being another great year for crime fiction!

In addition, there are the usual of wealth of reviews of current and forthcoming titles, including special sections on United Kingdom and Australian books, and a new column by Mike Ripley on forgotten figures in crime fiction. A must read for crime and thriller readers!
