THIS WEEK’S CANBERRA WEEKLY COLUMN: 13 FEBRUARY 2020

Canberra Weekly – 13 February 2020

This week’s Canberra Weekly column has a Valentine’s theme with three romantic novels.

Mix Tape and Jane In Love are both enjoyably light tales of modern romance. Rachel Givney’sJane In Love is the more enjoyable of the two, with Jane Austen’s reactions to the modern world providing some nice comedic moments. The supporting cast of characters are also good and the feminist twist to the story will appeal to modern fans of Jane Austen’s books.

Mix Tape by Jane Sanderson is also enjoyable, although there are some bittersweet moments to it, particularly in terms of the impact of the developing relationship on their current partners and families. You can also download the mix tape that Daniel prepares to listen to, which is fun.

I have already provided a longer review of Lee Christine’s Charlotte Pass, which is an enjoyable, easy flowing crime novel with a romantic twist.

Thanks to the Canberra Weekly, Allen & Unwin and Penguin Random House for advanced copies of the books.
